While crossovers and SUVs dominate the luxury market, Mercedes-Benz is making a bold statement: the shooting brake wagon isn’t dead it’s going electric. For 2026, the CLA Shooting Brake returns for a third generation, blending sleek fastback styling with practicality and zero-emission performance.
Yes, the name "Shooting Brake" stretches tradition (it has four doors, not two), but we’re not complaining. In an era of rising hoods and boxy SUVs, the long-roof CLA remains a refreshing alternative to the GLA and its ilk.
The new CLA Shooting Brake launches as a fully electric model, though a mild-hybrid gasoline variant is also in the pipeline. Up front, there’s no traditional grille just a black panel embedded with 142 illuminated three-pointed stars, a futuristic signature made possible by the lack of a combustion engine needing airflow.

Up to the B-pillars, it mirrors the CLA “coupe”, including the optional continuous light bar that fuses headlights and DRLs into a seamless “unibrow” look.
Mercedes has stretched the formula:
- Length: 185.9 in (4,723 mm) +1.3 in
- Width: 73.0 in (1,855 mm) +1.0 in
- Height: 57.8 in (1,469 mm) +1.1 in
- Wheelbase: 109.8 in (2,790 mm) +2.4 in longer
Despite the larger footprint, cargo space takes a small hit due to battery packaging:
- Rear cargo volume: 455 liters (16.0 cu ft) down 30L from before
- With seats folded: 1,290 liters (45.5 cu ft) still generous, but 60L less than the outgoing model
To compensate, Mercedes adds a front trunk (frunk) with 101 liters (3.5 cu ft) of storage a rare perk for a compact EV.

One of the most striking features is the massive one-piece panoramic glass roof, stretching from the windshield to the rear spoiler. It’s not just big it’s smart:
- Infrared-reflecting, low-emissivity (Low-E) coating keeps the cabin cool in summer and warm in winter
- Embedded with 158 fiber-optic "stars" that sync with ambient lighting for a dreamy, starry-night effect
And yes it’s dimmable. With the touch of a button via the infotainment system, the glass switches from transparent to opaque in just 10–20 milliseconds.
Inside, the CLA embraces digital luxury:
- 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
- 14-inch central touchscreen
- Optional 14-inch passenger display (great for entertainment, bad for privacy)
Without the extra screen, the dashboard features backlit stars because apparently, once you go starry, you never go back.

An optional head-up display rounds out the tech suite, keeping drivers focused on the road.
Mercedes will launch the CLA Shooting Brake in two EV variants:
1. CLA 250+ (RWD, single motor)
- 268 hp, 247 lb-ft (335 Nm)
- 0–62 mph in 6.8 seconds, top speed 130 mph (210 km/h)
2. CLA 300 4MATIC (AWD, dual motor)
- 349 hp, 380 lb-ft (515 Nm)
- 0–62 mph in 5.0 seconds, same top speed
Both use an 85-kWh usable nickel-manganese-cobalt battery pack:
- CLA 250+: Up to 473 miles (761 km) WLTP range
- CLA 300 4MATIC: Up to 454 miles (730 km) WLTP
And when you need a quick boost:
- 320 kW DC fast charging
- 10 minutes adds up to 193 miles (310 km) (250+) or 186 miles (300 km) (300 4MATIC)
