Volvo has a problem. Despite being one of the first luxury brands to go all-in on electrification, its EV sales dropped 13% in 2025.
But now, it’s fighting back with a new weapon. Meet the Volvo EX60: an all-electric, SPA3-based crossover that isn’t just another EV. It’s Volvo’s most important launch in years. Not because it replaces the legendary XC60 (it doesn’t), but because it might just rescue the brand’s electric future.
Forget compromises. The EX60 is built from the ground up as a pure EV, riding on Volvo’s dedicated SPA3 electric architecture no combustion engine legacy holding it back.
That means:
- No transmission tunnel → flat floor
- Optimized weight distribution
- Maximum interior space
- Higher efficiency
And yes, this is not a direct successor to the gas-powered XC60, which remains in production. Instead, the EX60 stands alongside it sleeker, smarter, fully electric. Think of it as the XC60’s high-tech sibling, evolved for a new era.
Visually, the EX60 follows the lead of the larger EX90, blending Scandinavian minimalism with modern EV cues.
Key highlights:
- Split headlights – sharp, futuristic, instantly recognizable
- Closed-off grille – no cooling needed here
- Electric winglet door handles – flush-mounted into the beltline like the Mustang Mach-E
- Reduces drag to an impressive 0.26 Cd
- Helps stretch range without sacrificing style
At the rear, signature vertical taillights flank the tailgate glass a nod to Volvo heritage and yes there’s a rear wiper, though not hidden under the spoiler like some rivals.
Cross Country Toughness Returns Now With Air Suspension
For rugged terrain lovers, Volvo brings back the EX60 Cross Country.
This version:
- Rides 0.8 inches (20 mm) higher than standard
- Features stainless steel skid plates
- Has beefier wheel arch cladding
- Exclusively rides on 21-inch wheels
And thanks to standard air suspension, drivers can raise it another 0.8 inches off-road then auto-lower at speed for improved aerodynamics and efficiency.
Available only with AWD, the Cross Country comes in two flavors:
- P10 AWD
- P12 AWD
But don’t expect U.S. availability until summer 2027.

Step inside, and the cabin feels both familiar and futuristic. Like German rivals, Volvo embraces a nearly buttonless design with nearly every function routed through the central infotainment system. But this time, it works.
Volvo claims:
Screens respond quickly. Maps load instantly. Voice assistants understand you better.
No lag. No freezing.
Why the confidence?
Because the EX60 is Volvo’s first model powered by Google’s Gemini AI assistant enabling natural, conversational commands without memorizing phrases.
It’s also the brand’s answer to past software struggles especially those that plagued the EX90 at launch. This time, Gothenburg says: We’ve learned. Audio fans, rejoice.
The EX60 packs 28 speakers, including four embedded in the headrests, delivering true 4D immersive sound via the Bowers & Wilkins Premium Audio system. It’s not just loud. It’s luxurious.
Other interior wins:
- Pop-up cup holders beneath the center armrest
- Ample storage throughout
- Flat floor = easier access and more legroom
- Five-seat configuration only no third row
Yes, it’s spacious but not oversized.
Volvo offers three main trims each sharper than the last.
- P6 (RWD) – Entry-Level Power
- Single rear motor: 369 hp, 354 lb-ft
- 0–62 mph in 5.7 seconds
- 80.0-kWh battery
- Up to 310 miles range (with 20-inch wheels)
Larger wheels reduce range by ~10 miles per step up.
- P10 AWD – Balanced Performance
- Dual-motor setup: 503 hp, 524 lb-ft
- 0–62 mph in 4.4 seconds
- 91.0-kWh battery
- 320-mile range (on 20-inch wheels)
Perfect blend of speed and usability.
- P12 AWD – Full-Blown Beast
- 670 hp, 583 lb-ft
- 0–62 mph in just 3.8 seconds
- 112.0-kWh battery
- Up to 400 miles of range (on 20-inch wheels)
Even with 22-inch wheels, it still delivers 375 miles.
This is Volvo’s fastest, most powerful SUV ever edging into supercar territory.

Range is great but charging speed seals the deal.
All models support rapid DC charging:
- P6: Up to 350 kW
- P10/P12: Up to 400 kW
With the flagship P12:
- 10–80% charge in just 19 minutes
- 10-minute top-up adds 173 miles of range
And critically:
Native NACS port included
No adapter needed plug directly into over 25,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America.
A major win for convenience.
Underneath, the EX60 is a showcase of modern manufacturing. Volvo uses mega casting technology replacing hundreds of small parts with large, recycled aluminum castings reducing weight and complexity.
It also features in-house-developed electric motors and cell-to-body battery integration, where battery cells become part of the chassis structure increasing rigidity and saving space.
Still, EV weight remains a factor:
- Lightest model: 4,663 lbs
- Heaviest (P12): 5,137 lbs
- Cross Country starts at 5,060 lbs
Not light but justified by safety, tech, and performance.
Manufactured in Torslanda, Sweden, the EX60 is already available for order in Europe.
U.S. deliveries begin in late spring, with initial shipments starting this summer.
Launch models include:
- P6
- P10 AWD
The P12 AWD arrives later in 2026. The Cross Country variant won’t reach American soil until summer 2027.
Top speed? Capped at 112 mph, continuing Volvo’s 2020 commitment to responsible performance.
