In a world obsessed with hypercars that weigh more than trucks, one tiny Dutch automaker is doing something radical. Going lighter. Meet the Donkervoort P24 RS not just the most extreme car in the brand’s 50-year history. But possibly the most focused, analog, and unhinged road-legal machine you can buy today and yes it hits 62 mph in under 2.5 seconds while weighing less than 1,720 pounds (780 kg).

At first glance, the P24 RS follows a simple philosophy:

  • Front-engine
  • Mid-mounted driver
  • Rear-wheel drive

But this isn’t vintage thinking. It’s cutting-edge extremism. Under its long, sculpted hood lies a turbocharged 3.5L V6 producing up to 600 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque tuned from the same unit found in the Ford GT and F-150 Raptor. But Donkervoort didn’t just bolt it in. They reimagined it. Working with Van Der Lee Turbo Systems, they developed fully bespoke turbochargers no off-the-shelf units here.

Why?

We wanted zero turbo lag, says CEO Denis Donkervoort.

And razor-sharp throttle response.

Mission accomplished.

Paired with a five-speed manual transmission because real drivers still matter the P24 RS delivers power straight to the rear wheels with mechanical purity few modern supercars dare match. With a power-to-weight ratio of 770 hp per ton, it outguns nearly every mid-engine exotic on the planet.

This isn't an all-or-nothing beast. You can tailor its fury to suit the moment.

Three power modes via dashboard dial:

  • 400 hp – perfect for wet roads or spirited touring
  • 500 hp – track day aggression
  • 600 hp – full attack mode

Even better?

You can fine-tune:

  • Tractive damping system
  • Traction control aggressiveness

So whether you're carving canyon roads or chasing lap times, the P24 RS adapts without sacrificing its raw edge.

Thanks to its ultra-low mass, near-perfect weight distribution, and exposed front wheels for maximum feedback, the P24 RS grips like a race car.

Donkervoort claims drivers can pull up to 2.3 lateral Gs when committed. That’s supercar territory achieved through engineering discipline, not brute force and while it wasn’t built as an aerodynamic weapon.

You can turn it into one.

Enter: removable aero.

Pop-on front dive planes and aggressive rear spoilers when track time demands downforce.

Afterward?

Take them off or leave them on, because let’s be honest they look incredible. Pretty much everything you see is carbon fiber body panels, wings, structural elements. But Donkervoort didn’t go to traditional suppliers. They partnered with Ex-Core, a revolutionary composites company using foam-expansion technology instead of massive autoclaves.

How it works:

  • Tooling shaped to design
  • Carbon layers laid inside
  • Expanding foam injected
  • Heating rods activate curing process

Result?

- High-strength carbon parts

- Lower energy use

- No need for giant ovens

Bonus: 3D-printed metal exhaust tips add both durability and futuristic flair.

This method is so advanced, Ex-Core now builds parts for luxury yachts and even Toyota’s race programs.

But on the P24 RS?

It’s pure performance art.

Tiny LED DRLs sit flush in the nose. When you need serious illumination, press a button and full-beam projectors silently rise from the front clamshell. No retro gimmick. Just smart, functional design. Because Donkervoort refuses to compromise visibility for style.

Despite being a barely-tamed track missile, the P24 RS isn’t completely impractical.

  • 8.8 cubic feet of trunk space enough for groceries or weekend luggage
  • Spacious cockpit: Designed by Joop Donkervoort himself, who stands over 6’7”
  • Fits tall drivers comfortably even with the removable targa top in place

Inside:

  • No stereo this is a car for engine noise lovers
  • But a high-resolution digital instrument display gives you every vital
  • Built-in GPS lap timer perfect for circuit obsessives

For the first time ever, Donkervoort replaces the handbrake with an electric parking brake freeing up cabin space for a small storage cubby. Progress, done right.

Donkervoort doesn’t do volume. Just passion. Only 150 examples of the P24 RS will be built and already, over 50 are claimed a testament to the brand’s fiercely loyal following.

Price?

From €298,500 (~$350,000 USD) before taxes and options.

Not cheap. But then again, nothing this exclusive ever is.

The P24 RS marks a milestone. It’s the first model fully developed under Denis Donkervoort, son of founder Joop Donkervoort, who officially handed over leadership in 2021 after years of mentorship. Different generations. Same obsession.

“This car,” Denis says, “is still very much a Donkervoort through and through."

The P24 RS is coming to the U.S. Expect it to turn heads at track days, concours events, and maybe even your local Cars & Coffee. But don’t blink. With only 150 made, spotting one in the wild might be rarer than catching lightning.
