Toyota is expanding its SUV lineup with a new option for 2024 and the Grand Highlander. The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander is actually a stretched, higher version of the midsize Highlander SUV. 

Therefore, the new SUV will be positioned above the Highlander, and below the Sequoia and Toyota's SUV hierarchy. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander.

The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander features a premium exterior design that carries some elements from the Highlander. The SUV features a square and long design that gives it a premium look. The front has a thin grille and wide lower air vents. These specific headlights are joined by a trim piece, a vertical look unique to Toyota SUVs. The rear end features understated styling with C-shaped taillights, a rotating rear spoiler and a vertical rear hatch.

The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander's most notable upgrade to the all-time Highlander is the cabin. The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander's wheelbase is about four inches longer than the Highlander's, which translates to 5.5 inches more than the third wheelbase. The premium look continues inside, where the Grand Highlander features a premium design. The dashboard flows directly into the air vents, while a large central touch screen is placed in front of the dashboard. There is a straight line of physical controls for the HVAC system, while a wide central control allows for storage. 

The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander comes with a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, Wi-Fi hotspot and satellite radio. Available features include a JBL sound system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Toyota will offer the Grand Highlander with three different powertrains. The standard engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbo that develops 265 horsepower.

The hybrid variant of the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors for a total of 243 hp. The top model of the Grand Highlander will have a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 2.4 cylinders and an electric motor developing up to 362 hp. Toyota says the Grand Highlander can tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped.

Toyota's Safety Sense 3.0 system will be standard on the 2024 Grand Highlander. Standard safety features will include forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, cruise control adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and automatic high assist. Available features include cross-traffic patrol and traffic jam assistance. Toyota has not confirmed when the 2024 Grand Highlander will go on sale or how much it will cost. We expect the SUV to arrive before the end of the year. Prices should start around $45,000.

The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander will compete with other midsize SUVs such as Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, Mazda CX-90, Jeep Grand Cherokee L, Honda Pilot, Volkswagen Atlas and Nissan Pathfinder.
