Audi’s product offensive is in full swing. After unveiling the next-gen A5, Q5, A6, and Q6 e-tron, the brand is now turning its attention to the compact end of the lineup. The third-generation Audi Q3 has arrived and it’s more than just a minor refresh. With a striking new design, advanced lighting tech, and refined interior ergonomics, this compact luxury SUV aims to outshine rivals like the BMW X1 and Mercedes GLA.

The new Q3 debuts split headlights and taillights a design trend Audi previously reserved for larger models. Unlike the Q5, which skips this look, the Q3 embraces it with flair.

Only the upper daytime running lights are visible at first glance. The main matrix LED headlights are cleverly hidden behind dark-tinted glass, framed by glossy black trim. Each unit packs a staggering 25,600 micro-LEDs each thinner than half a human hair enabling ultra-precise beam control. Impressive? Yes. Cost-effective to repair? Probably not.

At the rear, the OLED taillights are split by a lower LED light bar, creating a wide, modern look. The upper section features 36 individually controllable segments, allowing owners to select from six unique lighting animations. An illuminated Audi badge sits proudly in the center a subtle nod to the brand’s evolving design language.

Gone are the fake exhaust tips. Audi is moving away from artificial cues, and the new Q3 follows suit. The exhaust outlet is now hidden beneath the bumper, giving the rear a cleaner, more minimalist look. This S Line model features a distinctive diffuser but no tailpipes possibly saving the more aggressive styling for the S and RS variants.

At first glance, the side profile might make you think you’re looking at a Q5. The new Q3 shares design cues with its larger sibling, including a strong shoulder line and pronounced wheel arches inspired by the original Quattro.

Higher trims ride on 20-inch wheels, while the base model comes with 17-inch alloys. Tire width has increased from 215 to 235 mm, improving grip and presence. Aerodynamics have also improved, with the drag coefficient reduced from 0.32 to 0.30.

Inside, the Q3 follows Audi’s latest design philosophy: digital, driver-focused, and minimalist. There’s no optional passenger display a move we welcome, given the awkward look it creates in the base Q5.

The driver faces a 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch central touchscreen running Android Automotive OS a win for seamless smartphone integration. However, the touch-sensitive steering wheel buttons and thick screen bezels may not win over all users.

One class-first upgrade: the Q3 is the first compact Audi to feature acoustic glazing on the front-side windows, significantly reducing road and wind noise for a quieter cabin.

Audi admits its recent interiors have slipped in perceived quality and promises improvement. Whether this new Q3 delivers remains to be seen, but early signs are promising.

In a major ergonomic shift, the gear selector has moved from the center console to behind the steering wheel mounted on the right stalk. This frees up space between the front seats for:

• Two large cupholders
• A cooled wireless charging tray
• Dual USB-C ports

To make this work, Audi redesigned the left stalk to handle wipers, lights, and turn signals a clever integration of controls.

Despite its compact footprint, the 2026 Q3 offers impressive cargo flexibility:

• 488 liters (17.2 cu ft) with rear seats upright
• 575 liters (20.3 cu ft) with rear seats slid forward
• 1,386 liters (48.9 cu ft) with seats folded flat

It can also tow up to 2,100 kg (4,630 lbs)  more than enough for small trailers or outdoor gear.

Audi is launching the Q3 with three powertrains  but no diesel with AWD:

        1. 1.5L TFSI Mild-Hybrid (Front-Wheel Drive)

• 148 hp, 184 lb-ft (250 Nm)
• Cylinder deactivation for efficiency
• 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission

        2. 2.0L TFSI (Quattro AWD)

• 261 hp, 295 lb-ft (400 Nm)
• Paired with Quattro and 7-speed S tronic

        3. 2.0L TDI Diesel (Front-Wheel Drive)

• 148 hp, 266 lb-ft (360 Nm)
• 7-speed S tronic, no AWD option at launch

All engines balance performance and efficiency, with the mild-hybrid setup ideal for city driving and the 2.0T appealing to those wanting more punch.

The 2026 Audi Q3 may be a compact crossover, but it’s packed with big ideas. From micro-LED lighting to acoustic glazing and smart interior reengineering, this is more than just another entry in the segment it’s a statement of intent.
