The 2024 Lexus GX is a significant departure from the previous generation model, incorporating big chunky styling and a strong vibe that we're not used to seeing from premium brands. We now know how much Lexus charges for such an air: $64,250.

For the record, that's a little more than our original estimate of $60,000. This figure includes the mandatory $1,350 destination and delivery fee charged by Lexus. For comparison, the outgoing Lexus GX starts at less than $60,000. And although we don't yet have an exact price for the new US-spec Land Cruiser, Toyota has confirmed that it will start in the mid-$50,000 range. You might be wondering if the Lexus GX is worth about $10,000 more than the Toyota Land Cruiser

Both SUVs share the same platform and square, upright design. But Lexus supports the GX with a twin-turbo V6 3.4-liter that produces 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. That's a bit more than you'll find under the hood of the Land Cruiser, where Toyota's 326-hp turbocharged 2.4-liter I-Force Max inline-four is available.

If you prefer a hybrid, Lexus says that a powertrain will come with the GX. However, it is not known exactly when. This may be an option for luxury SUV buyers who are looking for better fuel economy over more power.

There are no official fuel economy ratings listed on the EPA website for either vehicle, but Lexus tells us that the GX and V6 get 21 mpg on the highway. That's better than the outgoing V8 model, but it shows combined MPG ratings still likely below 20 mpg. The i-Force Max should be more expensive, but we're still waiting for official stats to confirm anything.

Besides the engine, the entry-level Lexus GX 550 Premium benefits from a number of standard equipment, including a full-time 4WD system. A 12.3-inch driver display and 14-inch central touchscreen adorn the interior, along with heated/ventilated front seats, a 10-speaker stereo, and the Lexus + 3.0 security system.

This includes automatic emergency braking, radar cruise control, adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning, and an in-car camera that can read traffic signs. Available upgrades include heated seats, speakers, a head-up display, and the option of two or three seats.
