Mazda is going electric but not quite the way you’d expect. At the 2026 Brussels Motor Show, the Japanese automaker unveiled the CX-6e: a sleek, tech-forward electric SUV developed specifically for European buyers.

But here’s the twist:

It’s not an all-new Mazda original. The CX-6e is the European version of the China-built Mazda EZ-60, co-developed with Changan and now rebadged for Western markets.

And honestly? It might be one of the most compelling EVs Mazda has launched in years.

Externally, the CX-6e looks like a natural evolution of Mazda’s Kodo design language sharp lines, frameless doors, flush handles, and a coupe-like roofline.

But under the skin, it shares its foundation with the Changan Depal S07, built on Changan’s EPA1 dedicated EV platform flexible enough to support both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid variants.

While this marks a departure from Mazda’s traditional in-house engineering, it allows the brand to accelerate its electrification strategy without sacrificing quality or style.

The European-spec CX-6e comes exclusively as a battery-electric vehicle, powered by a rear-mounted electric motor drawing energy from a 78.0-kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack.

Output:

  • 254 horsepower
  • 214 lb-ft of torque
  • 0–62 mph in just 7.9 seconds
  • Top speed limited to highway-friendly levels

With rear-wheel drive dynamics, the CX-6e promises engaging driving feel a rare trait in today’s sea of front-heavy crossovers.

Step inside, and things get futuristic. There’s no traditional digital instrument cluster. Instead, Mazda replaces it with a massive 26.0-inch panoramic display that spans nearly the entire dashboard width.

It uses a dual-split layout:

  • Left side: Drives navigation and driver information
  • Right side: Controls infotainment and climate settings

Even more impressive?

A high-resolution 3D head-up display that projects key data including navigation route overlays directly onto the windshield.

Imagine seeing turn-by-turn arrows appear on the road itself. That’s next-level augmented reality and yes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, ensuring seamless smartphone integration.

Thanks to the efficient LFP battery and EPA1 platform optimization, the CX-6e delivers:

  • Up to 300 miles (483 km) of range on the WLTP cycle
  • DC fast charging at speeds up to 170 kW
  • 10 to 80 percent charge in just 24 minutes

For European drivers, that means stress-free weekend trips and reliable daily commutes with minimal downtime.

Mazda equips the CX-6e with a comprehensive safety suite, including:

  • Smart Brake Support (automatic emergency braking)
  • Lane-Keep Assist with steering correction
  • Blind-Spot Monitoring
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Adaptive Cruise Control

All designed to make long drives safer and city maneuvering easier. Production begins soon, with first deliveries expected this summer across Europe. While Mazda hasn’t announced pricing yet, expectations place it between €45,000 – €50,000, positioning it competitively against the Kia EV5, Volkswagen ID.5, and Tesla Model Y RWD. Not cheap but justified by its bold design, cutting-edge tech, and RWD driving dynamics.
