Auto shows may be fading into nostalgia. But at the 2026 Brussels Motor Show, Kia proves they’re still worth it. Say hello to the Kia EV2 the brand’s sixth model built on Hyundai’s advanced E-GMP electric architecture, and its most accessible EV yet. It might sit at the bottom of Kia’s electric lineup but don’t mistake it for basic. The EV2 is bold. Practical. Refreshingly analog in all the right places and yes gloriously boxy.
In a world obsessed with swoopy crossovers, the EV2 dares to be square. Its compact footprint (just 159.8 inches long) hides surprising interior space, while its upright stance gives it personality that punches far above its price.
Key visual highlights:
- Split vertical headlights sharp, futuristic, straight from concept-car dreams
- Taillights tucked into lower rear corners an edgy touch reminiscent of the PT Cruiser
- Boxy silhouette maximizes cabin volume without bloating exterior dimensions
Available in GT-Line trim from launch, adding sportier bumpers, gloss black accents, and larger wheels. This isn’t trying to blend in. It wants to stand out.
While many brands go full touchscreen chaos, Kia says “not here.”
Inside the EV2, you’ll find:
- A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
- A 12.3-inch central infotainment display
- And hiding between them? A 5.3-inch physical climate control screen no menus needed
Even better?
- Physical roller for volume control
- Manual air vent adjusters
- Dedicated buttons for common functions
No fumbling mid-drive. No layers of submenus. Just intuitive access because not every car needs to feel like a spaceship.

Despite its city-car size, the EV2 packs clever packaging:
- Rear seat options: two- or three-passenger configuration
- Max cargo behind rear seats:
- 14.2 cu ft (403L) – four-seat model
- 12.7 cu ft (362L) – five-seater
- Front trunk ("frunk"): 0.5 cu ft (15L) perfect for charging cables or groceries
It’s not huge but it’s impressively usable.
Yes the larger battery has slightly less power due to tuning for efficiency.
All models are front-wheel drive only, with a top speed limited to 99 mph (159 km/h).
Wheels vary by trim:
- Base: 16" or 18" alloys
- GT-Line: 19-inch wheels with 225/45 R19 tires
No 800-volt tech here but DC fast charging is still strong:
- 10–80% in just 29 minutes (smaller pack)
- 30 minutes (larger pack)
Using a 400-volt system keeps costs down critical for this entry-level segment.

Don’t think “budget” means barebones.
The EV2 comes loaded with premium touches:
- Wireless smartphone charging
- 100-watt USB-C ports
- Harman Kardon premium audio
- Over-the-air (OTA) software updates
- Pet Mode maintains cabin temperature when pets are left inside
And yes it supports bidirectional charging:
- V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) power tools, laptops, even a toaster
- V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) feed energy back into your home or grid
A small car with big capabilities.
Manufactured at Kia’s Žilina factory in Slovakia (same as the EV4), the EV2 is a true European player.
Rollout schedule:
- Standard-range model: Production starts Q1 2026
- Longer-range version & GT-Line trim: Arrive later in 2026
Pricing starts below €30,000 (~$35,000 USD equivalent) making it one of the most feature-rich EVs under $35K. Some compromises were necessary no AWD, no ultra-fast charging but Kia made smart trade-offs. You get real-world usability, strong range, and personality all without breaking the bank.
