After a one-year hiatus in 2023 to make way for its next generation, the Jeep Cherokee is back and better than ever. The all-new 2026 Cherokee emerges as a larger, more capable, and tech-forward SUV, built on Stellantis’ modern STLA Large platform and powered exclusively by a new hybrid powertrain at launch.

Designed to compete in one of the most crowded segments in the market, this rebooted Cherokee aims to stand out with best-in-class off-road geometry, increased cargo space, and a thoughtful blend of retro-inspired design and modern luxury.

The 2026 Cherokee launches with one powertrain only: a 350-volt hybrid system developed specifically for this model. There’s no plug-in option, but the setup delivers strong efficiency and real-world usability.

It combines:

  • A turbocharged 1.6L four-cylinder engine
  • A two-motor e-CVT (electronically controlled continuously variable transmission)
  • A small 1.08-kWh battery charged via the engine and regenerative braking

Total output: 210 horsepower and 230 lb-ft of torque.

Jeep claims:

  • Over 500 miles of total range
  • 37 mpg combined fuel economy
  • 0–60 mph in 8.3 seconds

More powertrain options are expected in the future, but for now, this hybrid system sets the tone for a more efficient, responsive Cherokee.

Measuring 188.1 inches long, 83.6 inches wide (with mirrors), and 67.6 inches tall, the new Cherokee is significantly larger than its predecessor. Its 113.0-inch wheelbase nearly 6 inches longer translates into more interior room and, according to Jeep, 30% more cargo space.

Despite its size, it remains agile and trail-ready:

  • 8.0 inches of ground clearance
  • 19.6° approach angle (best in class)
  • 29.4° departure angle (best in class)
  • 18.8° breakover angle

All models come standard with Active Drive I 4x4, featuring:

  • Rear-axle disconnect for improved highway efficiency
  • Four drive modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, and Mud/Sand

And yes a Trailhawk version is in development, though Jeep hasn’t revealed full specs yet. Expect serious upgrades like Quadra-Drive II, underbody protection, and enhanced off-road tuning.

Jeep gave the new Cherokee a clean, boxy silhouette that pays homage to the iconic XJ Cherokee of the 1980s and ’90s:

  • U-shaped LED daytime running lights echoing the XJ’s square units
  • A sharp D-pillar break inspired by military jerry cans
  • Simple, rugged lines with functional cladding

It’s a design that feels both nostalgic and modern unmistakably Jeep.

Inside, the cabin borrows cues from the Wagoneer S, offering a premium feel without overcomplicating things:

  • Steering “squircle” (square-steering-wheel hybrid)
  • 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
  • 12.3-inch central infotainment screen
  • Uconnect 5 system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

A rotary gear selector replaces the traditional shifter, freeing up console space for storage part of Jeep’s effort to maximize practicality.

Standard safety and driver assistance features include:

  • Rain-sensing wipers
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Rear park assist
  • Active Driving Assist (Level 2 hands-on driver aid)

Higher trims add available upgrades like:

  • 360-degree camera
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated rear seats
  • Front tire-to-curb view
  • Dual-pane panoramic sunroof
  • Foot-activated power liftgate

The 2026 Cherokee is priced competitively:

  • Base model: $38,990 — $200 cheaper than the outgoing model
  • Laredo: $41,990
  • Limited: $44,490
  • Overland: $47,990

(All prices include $1,995 destination charge)

The Limited and Overland trims will arrive first, with base and mid-grade models following in early 2026.
