Kia is heading into the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show with refreshed models, including an updated version of its top-seller, the Sportage. Though the visual changes debuted in South Korea, this version brings the same design tweaks and tech upgrades to North America.

The most noticeable update is the new front design, showcasing Kia 'opposites united' design language. The grille and headlights now feature straighter vertical lines, replacing the zig-zagging boomerang-shaped running lights of the previous model. This gives the Sportage a cleaner, more upright look, aligning with current trends in crossover design. At the rear, the taillights have new internal structures, and there are minor trim adjustments to the bumpers. New wheel options range from 17 to 19 inches.

Inside, the dashboard sees subtle changes for a sleeker appearance, complemented by dual 12.3-inch digital displays housed in a single, slightly driver-angled panel, now standard across all trims. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard, alongside Smart Key with remote start. Kia over-the-air updates ensure the system stays current. Digital Key 2.0, which allows your smartphone to function as a key, is available for an additional cost.

A 10-inch head-up display is now an option, integrating music and navigation prompts when connected to Apple or Android devices. Kia Connect services offer a suite of connected features, including Remote 360 View, which lets you access the SUV's 360-degree camera through your smartphone.

The 2026 Sportage maintains its existing powertrains with minor tweaks. The Sportage Hybrid now delivers 231 hp, a 4-hp increase, using a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a 47.7 kW motor. The PHEV version combines the same engine with a 72 kW motor for a total of 268 hp. The standard combustion model continues with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 187 hp. Terrain Mode, available on higher trims and AWD models, allows drivers to select settings for snow, sand, or mud.

The Hybrid model introduces two new trims: the S trim, with standard 18-inch wheels and black exterior trim, includes features like heated seats and blindspot collision warning. The X-Line trim adds 19-inch wheels, LED driving lamps, more charging ports, upgraded interior materials, and a power liftgate.

Safety features are comprehensive, with all trims offering standard automatic emergency braking with car, bicycle, and pedestrian detection. A new hands-on detection feature ensures drivers stay engaged with the assist systems. Forward Collision Avoidance, part of the Highway Driving Assist 2 system, and parking assistance are optional extras.

The 2026 Kia Sportage is set to arrive at dealerships in late spring 2025, with pricing details to be announced closer to its release.
