The next generation GMC Acadia graces the stage at the Detroit Auto Show 2023. Launched as a 2024 model, the SUV is larger in every way compared to the outgoing model. 

That means more room for people and cargo, and it also packs improved technology with more power under the hood.

Although the GMC Acadia is new for 2024, some changes will be familiar to General Motors fans. Sharing its backbone with the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse that was launched in July, it has the same 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder under the hood, making 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque for all GMC Acadia models. It's the only engine offered, and it powers either the front wheels or all four through an eight-speed transmission. Currently, there is no electricity in sight, nor is it fully electric or hybrid.

The new engine is certainly the main talking point for the next-generation GMC Acadia, but the biggest new feature (figuratively and literally) might be the larger body. It's 10.6 inches longer and 3.6 inches longer than the 2023 model, and while that doesn't sound like much on paper, it brings the Acadia surprisingly close to its beefy GMC Yukon sibling in terms of quality. Inside, that translates into a significant increase in space - 80 percent more safety behind the third seat and 36 percent increase in the second row, according to GMC. Front seat passengers are treated to a different digital setup than in the new Traverse. 

The driver has an 11-inch diagonal screen, and a central 15-inch graphic-based touchscreen. This design is standard across Acadia; but the screen is customizable although it is not a fully digital process. The steering wheel and bank of buttons below the center display provide touch controls for accessing various vehicle functions. In the technology department, the 2024 GMC Acadia has Google integrated into its various applications, including navigation. GMC doesn't mention Android Auto or Apple CarPlay; Earlier in 2023, GM said it was removing the popular features from its electric car lineup but would continue to offer them on fire trucks.

It's available on the 2025 Cadillac CT5 that also debuted at the Detroit Auto Show, but we reached out to GMC to ask directly about Apple/Android availability for the 2024 GMC Acadia. We will add updates as soon as we have feedback. In addition to the optional technology, Super Cruise and traction assist and automatic lane change are available on some models of 2024 GMC Acadia. As for the price, GMC is not yet ready to talk about it. For reference, the 2023 GMC Acadia starts at $36,800 on the base SLE trim. The AT4 costs $43,400, and the top-of-the-line 2023 GMC Acadia Denali has a starting MSRP of $48,600. None of these figures include destination charges. Pricing for the 2024 model will be announced closer to the on-sale date, which is expected to be early next year.
