Ram is making a statement and it’s loud, proud, and powered by a Hemi V-8. After briefly abandoning the iconic engine in its latest-generation 1500, Ram has course-corrected in dramatic fashion. For 2026, the 5.7L Hemi V-8 returns, and to celebrate, the truck brand unveiled “The Dude” at SEMA a jaw-dropping custom build that blends retro flair with modern muscle.

This isn’t just another concept. It’s a rolling act of redemption and a love letter to one of the most rebellious eras in American automotive history.

Let’s not mince words: Ram admits it made a mistake. When the current-gen Ram 1500 launched without the V-8, fans were furious. And when Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis returned to the role late last year, he didn’t deflect.

“We screwed up,” he admitted. “And we’re fixing it.”

Engineers quickly re-engineered the platform to bring back the 5.7L HEMI V-8, now producing 395 horsepower once again giving enthusiasts a naturally aspirated, fuel-thirsty alternative in an age of turbos and electrification.

To underscore the message, Ram introduced a new badge:

“Symbol of Protest” proudly displayed on the front fender of The Dude.

It’s more than branding. It’s a declaration of loyalty to the people who kept the Hemi dream alive.

“The Dude” draws direct inspiration from a rare 1970s option package offered by Dodge: the “Dude” trim, a short-lived but cult-favorite package aimed at outdoorsmen and individualists.

For this SEMA tribute, Ram resurrects the spirit complete with:

  • Sublime Green exterior paint bold, bright, and impossible to ignore
  • Satin black C-stripes running down the hood and sides
  • Black accents on the grille, roof, mirror caps, tailgate, and hood stripes
  • A cheeky mural of a square-jawed man in glasses and a cowboy hat the original Dude himself

It’s playful, nostalgic, and unapologetically American.

On the surface, “The Dude” is based on a Ram 1500 Big Horn but every inch has been transformed.

Key modifications include:

  • Lowered suspension for a sleeker, meaner stance
  • Massive 20x10-inch wheels wrapped in high-grip rubber
  • Custom front splitter and side skirts for added aggression
  • Side-exit exhaust system with black-tipped outlets emerging just ahead of the rear wheels a throwback to classic street trucks

It’s a look that bridges off-road toughness with urban cool a true street-truck revival in a segment that long forgot how to have fun.

Inside, green takes a backseat but still makes its presence known:

  • Contrast green stitching on seats and center armrest
  • Green “The Dude” badge on the passenger-side dashboard
  • In-console safe for valuables
  • Multi-accessory instrument panel rail perfect for gauges, switches, or gadgets
  • All-weather floor mats for real-world use

It’s a cabin built for character not just comfort.

While high-powered pickups like the Ram TRX are being retired, builds like “The Dude” prove there’s still life in the pickup world especially when you bring back the V-8.

Street trucks never really came back after their '80s heyday. But with “The Dude,” Ram shows they don’t need to stay gone. It’s also a reminder: trucks aren’t just for work. They can be fun, personal, and even a little weird and sometimes, they need a little protest.
