The Volkswagen Jetta has been around for a while. The seventh-generation model debuted in the US for 2019 and received a minor facelift in 2022. Now, VW is giving its entry-level sedan a more comprehensive update for 2025, featuring a new look and additional features.

Starting with the exterior, the 2025 VW Jetta boasts a fresh front fascia design with two new grilles, sleeker LED headlights, and an optional full-width light bar in the upper grille for the Sport model and above. The rear of the Jetta now includes a full-width taillight bar. New 17-inch wheels are standard, with 18-inch wheels available on the SEL and GLI trims.

Volkswagen has updated the interior of the 2025 Jetta with a new "three-line" dashboard design and new color options such as Seawall Blue and Storm Grey. An 8.0-inch touchscreen is now standard across all models and includes features like SiriusXM satellite radio and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The much-criticized touch-capacitive controls on the center console and the steering wheel of the GLI remain, but they are now illuminated, as seen on other updated VW models. There is some good news for GLI fans: "We're in the process of moving to a regular steering wheel on the GLI," a VW spokesperson noted.

The powertrain remains unchanged. The base Jetta continues to use a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, now only available with a seven-speed dual-clutch, as VW is discontinuing the manual option for the base model.

The sportier Jetta GLI retains the same turbocharged 2.0-liter engine as last year, producing 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The GLI still offers the choice between a six-speed manual and an optional seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It also features bigger brakes, a limited-slip differential, and an adaptive suspension.

Every Jetta, including the GLI, now includes VW's IQ.Drive active safety technology as standard. This encompasses features such as forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, active blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control, among others.

The 2025 VW Jetta and Jetta GLI are set to hit the market in Q3 of 2024. The base Jetta, now equipped with standard automatic transmission, starts at a slightly lower price compared to its predecessor, beginning at $23,295 including destination. More pricing details will be disclosed closer to the on-sale date of the Jetta.
