Few cars generate as much enthusiasm among enthusiasts as the BMW M5. After a long preparation, the company's latest super sedan is here. The new M5 is the most powerful yet to wear the iconic logo. But it's also the most powerful M5 thanks to its standard hybrid powertrain.
As expected, there is some XM DNA under the skin, namely a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor sandwiched with eight speeds. Total system output is 717 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, slightly more than what you get in the XM line. The engine alone produces 577 horsepower, with an additional 194 horsepower coming from the engine, the same as the XM. However, the hybrid battery is smaller, at 14.8 kWh.

BMW says the new M5 can go from zero to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. Top speed is only 155 mph, though it increases to 190 mph with the M driver's package. The other side of the coin is the quiet, electric performance of plug-in hybrid cars. In electric mode, BMW operates a distance of 40 kilometers thanks to the battery alone. However, if you step off the accelerator or decide to manually switch the M Steptronic transmission, the car will feel that you are ready to play with the engine light for more power.
Speaking of sports, there are three driving modes for the new M5. Comfort is where fuel and electricity work to provide the smoothest and most comfortable ride possible. The gas valve will shut off frequently and the suspension/transmission settings will be set to their minimum settings. Sport and Sport Plus keep things high (when you keep the engine running all the time), but the Dynamic and Dynamic Plus setting options are essential to enjoy the M5 experience. These models raise the rail for full power and speed up the cooling process for track work.

Dynamic mode also involves switching from the xDrive all-wheel-drive system to rear-wheel drive. You can also get it by turning off stability control, which gives drivers “an even purer performance experience,” according to BMW. The rear differential has an electronic lock that can send power to the left or right as needed to get the job done, not unlike the stability control system. The difference here is that it is the power and not the brakes that are used to keep the M5 clean and tidy. This results in faster and more confident cornering, which is further aided by an active rear suspension that tilts up to 1.5 degrees.
The M5 stops with six-piston calipers and 16.1-inch rotors at the front, and single-piston floating calipers bite 15.7-inch rotors at the rear. Carbon-ceramic M brakes are optional, increasing the front disc size to 16.5 inches while shedding 55 pounds in the process. They sit behind a set of alloy wheels measuring 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear.

It's all part of the M5's bespoke drivetrain base, which goes well beyond the stiff springs of the 5 Series five-link axle which is highly spec'd and uses power control arms, camber control and a guide bar designed for loads. g is high. The front two bones are strong and use the specified M5 socket.
There are additional supports for support towers, support under the ground and support for various more powerful chassis. Naturally, BMW's Adaptive M suspension is standard, with electronically controlled dampers that can be adjusted by the driver.

And many settings are available. In addition to the aforementioned driving style, the new M5 offers individual settings for the suspension, brakes, steering, transmission and all xDrive systems. Let's Release Technology, you find the BMW operating system in my display The key expression of the head is a standard, for the time when you don't feel like driving, can you push the video or play options of the AmyloSele.
Visually speaking, the M5 is unmatched in the power steering of its rear quad. It's also slightly wider: 3.0 inches in the front and 1.9 inches in the back. BMW says that parts of the M5 have been redesigned compared to the 5 Series to give it a more powerful stance. The front fascia is full of air vents and curves, and a subtle lip spoiler adds character to the rear. Nine standard colors are available at launch, but buyers can look to BMW's various shades for something unique.

And now the elephant in the room. The 2025 BMW M5 weighs 5,390 kilograms. That's not really an elephant, but it's more than a Ford F-150 with a four-door hatchback and four-wheel drive. However, we've already driven the preproduction M5 on track and we're impressed with how good it is. Weight doesn't seem to be a problem, but how does that translate to everyday use? This is something we want to spend more time on in the car, so stay tuned.
Or, you can buy one for a starting price of $120,675 and decide for yourself if the worst M5 is still a driver's delight. Deliveries will begin later this year.
