After a short teaser campaign, Ford revealed the first plug-in Ranger. The 2025 Ford Ranger PHEV will enter production late next year, with deliveries expected to begin in the first month of 2025. It is important to note that for now, the automaker is only specifying the Ford Ranger PHEV for the European market and there is no information about a North American launch.

The 2025 Ranger is currently the best-selling truck in Europe and Ford is expanding it with the addition of a 2.3-liter hybrid. It combines the power of a four-cylinder turbocharged engine with an electric motor and a small battery.

Unfortunately, the company doesn't provide production numbers, but it does say that the Ford Ranger PHEV delivers more torque than any other production Ranger in history. Even though we don't know the power numbers, there are many comparisons that can give us some information.

When equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine, the truck has a torque capacity of 443 lb-ft. In terms of power, the EcoBoost-liter 2.3 in unfired form produces 270 horsepower, and the new hybrid model can exceed that figure due to the added electric support.

In terms of range, Ford says it's aiming for an all-electric range of up to 28 miles per battery charge. Last but not least, the estimated braked towing capacity is 7,716 pounds, which is in line with the rest of the Ranger line.

Another new addition that Ford is introducing to the Ranger family is the Pro Power Onboard, which provides electric power to the bed for tools and accessories. Visually, there aren't many differences between the standard electric model and the new hybrid model. Obviously, the port is moved to the rear and you can also see the new design of the 18-inch wheels. Last but not least, there are PHEV letters on the rocker panel.

As mentioned above, Ford will put the 2025 Ranger PHEV on the production line later in 2024 and have the first examples for customers in early 2025. Electric power steering will initially be available on the Wildtrak trim, though other trims may join the lineup soon. Finally, Volkswagen has yet to confirm a hybrid version of the Amarok, which Ford built at its factory in South Africa.
