Volkswagen says its next entry-level electric car will be as spacious as the Golf but also as affordable as the Polo.
Just like the two sedans powered by a combustion engine, the EV will get a performance boost. Speaking to Top Gear magazine, Kai Grünitz, VW Board member for technical development, said that the "sport mode" is already in the front drive.

He went on to say that the homies at Wolfsburg haven't decided whether it will be a GTI or a GTX brand. The front electric motor should be very powerful because the recently revealed ID.2all already has 223 horsepower. It allows the concept to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than seven seconds, making it as fast as the fifth or sixth generation GTI. At full throttle, it will do 99 mph (160 km/h).
When can we expect to see hot spots? Well, regular production is expected to go on sale in 2025, so the GTI/GTX won't be available until later in 2026. Meanwhile, VW recently stopped taking new orders for the top ! GTI but you can still get the larger Polo and Golf with Gran Turismo injection specification.

An all-wheel-drive Golf R is also available, but all R models will go electric only by the end of the decade. In an interview with Top Gear, Kai Grünitz unveiled the all-wheel drive ID.2all performance model. With the main ID.2all expected to cost under $25,000, logic tells us that the released version will start at more than $30,000. Here in Germany, the Polo GTI sells from 33,455 euros while the Golf GTI is 40,905 euros without options.
